For several years Dr. Zacks has served on the Medical Advisory Board of the Carcinoid Cancer Foundation (CCF), founded by Dr. Richard R. P. Warner. This foundation, the oldest Carcinoid foundation in the United States, is an organization which serves as an information resource for both patients and the health care profession regarding carcinoid/neuroendocrine tumors; it also encourages and facilitates research in this field. The CCF also initiated and continues to encourage and aid the support group movement throughout North America, South America and Europe.
Dr. Zacks is a founding member of NANETS, The North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society. Focused upon all issues related to Neuroendocrine Tumors, this Society defines the standards for diagnosis and management of these tumors. Through its annual conventions and publications, it educates physicians and other scientists worldwide.
Dr. Zacks is also a member of ENETS, The European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society. Its annual conventions and its publications further communication among the world’s medical community and it facilitates the referral of patients to medical centers around the world when therapies not yet approved in one country are available in another.
Dr. Zacks has participated in the active attempt of CCAN, The Carcinoid Cancer Awareness Network, to educate the medical community and support Carcinoid/Neuroendocrine patients, families and caregivers in their effort to conquer these tumors.
Dr. Zacks is on the faculty at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center where he teaches medical students and young doctors about cardiovascular medicine and Carcinoid/Neuroendocrine diseases.
Dr. Zacks currently teaches a weekly seminar on ELECROCARDIOGRAPHY for senior medical students who come to Mt. Sinai from schools worldwide for their elective training in cardiology.
